The worlds of woods and garden are places that seem familiar, but the art of John and Deborah Koch of Trout Lily Studios invites you to take a closer look at these places of delicate beauty.
Using a combination of fine detail rendered by linoleum and woodblock block printing, and the vivid colors of watercolor, Deborah paints vibrant scenes of the creatures in the garden that we've always thought we knew so well.
From the towering trees of the forests and the tumbling waters of a hidden fishing pool, John uses the strong lines and deep colors of woodblock prints to bring to life the memories of a life's worth of hunting and fishing.
Between the two of them, these two artists have created an entire world of unsurpassing beauty, capturing with simple wood and linoleum blocks the delicate petals of an apple blossom and the majesty of a towering cottonwood.
John and Deborah work out of their studio located in the heart of Western Wisconsin farm country, together with their son and daughter and myriad of pets.
John's woodcuts have been frequently used to illustrate articles in Gray's Sporting Journal
John's woodcuts have been also been featured as covers on several books by Wisconsin and Minnesota authors Perry Palin and Larry Gavin
